Welcome back to Term 4!  Once again this term promises to be another busy one filled with fun and learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

This term the Tanikaha Taniwhas will be continuing on with our topic - Pacific Basin.  We have taken on more of an inquiry based approach this term and will be looking at 'How people(cultures, businesses, whanau etc), express themselves in New Zealand.  As always, if you have anything you feel will contribute to our topic, please feel free to come and have a chat.

Make sure you check back to see what fantastic work we will doing in our class throughout the term.

Term 3 Goals

In Week 1 we all worked really hard to write four goals for our learning. We follow the S.M.A.R.T goal guidelines to make sure they are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely.  Take a look at our goals for this term...

Healthy Lunch Boxes

Healthy Lunches

As part of our healthy lunch box drive we have banned ‘orange chips’ and snack packs as they do not contain the nutrients and vitamins that our children need.  Also, the only drink in school is water – either water from a water bottle or from our drinking fountains.

We would suggest that a sandwich, a biscuit, and a piece of fruit is a healthy lunch.

Thank you for your support in ensuring that our children receive healthy lunches.

Term 3, 2013

Kia Ora Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to Rowandale School for Term 3. I hope that you had a relaxing and refreshing two-week break and that the students are excited to come back to school and continue learning.

For your information here are a few notices:

Conferences: In Week Two we will be holding Parent/Teacher conferences. I am really looking forward to meeting with you and having meaningful conversations about your child’s learning. This one on one communication is extremely valuable so please let me know if you cannot make any of the allocated times and we can arrange another time to meet.

Homework: At the start of the year your child received a bright orange book bag that is clearly named. Thank you for taking the time to check they are bringing this home each night and reading a book. After they have read please continue to sign their homework notebook and remind them to bring it back to school.

Uniform: It’s always great to see the students dressed in correct uniform. As we continue through winter it will be important for the students to wear a jumper to school. Please make sure that each uniform item is clearly named so your child can take care of their belongings. If your child is not able to wear their school uniform for whatever reason, please provide a note explaining why.

Fundraising: This year we will be going on another camp adventure in Term 4. Thank you to everyone who helped with our fundraising events in Term One and Two. Once again we will be holding numerous fundraising events this term and we really look forward to your support with these activities.

Class Blog: At the start of the year we created a class blog to post about our learning in class. The
link to this page is: http://tanekaha-taniwhas.blogspot.co.nz/.  Go and check us out!

If you have any queries about this information or school in general please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Habits of Mind
We have been unpacking the Habits of Mind.  This week we have been focussing on Listening and Five Senses.

On Thursday 9 May Rhythm Interactive came to school and did a show for us. It was amazing because we got to join in and use the drums as well. We had to use lots of our Habits like Listening, Making It Right and Five Senses.
